Togo's Great Sandwiches

Togo’s Great Sandwiches Aggressively Expanding

Togo’s sandwich franchise plans to have 50 new locations by 2016 as consumers continue to demand choice sandwiches, fresh ingredients and healthy salads.

Togo’s Great Sandwiches Franchise
For more than 44 years, Togo’s, the premier sandwich chain in the west, has been serving big, made-to-order sandwiches stuffed with the freshest ingredients.  Those sandwiches and our legendary customer service are the reasons Togo’s has such a loyal following.  Togo’s was recently named on the Nation’s Restaurant News annual list of Consumer Picks, which measures how much customers love a brand.  We now have over 250 sandwich franchises in the west and are still growing.  We plan to reach 300 sandwich franchises by 2016.

“We have a tradition of providing high-quality sandwiches, salads, soups and wraps to our loyal customers for 40 years,” says CEO, Tony Gioia.  “Togo’s has become a premier brand throughout the western states.  Our franchisees are committed to delivering the ultimate sandwich experience to our customers, and we believe this ultimate experience starts with selecting the right people to become franchisees.”

Togo’s is growing
We’re growing in California and seven nearby western states.  We recently signed deals in Idaho, Utah, Oregon, Washington, Colorado and Arizona, and plan to expand into Nevada.  Franchise opportunities are available in each of these states, as well as California.  Togo’s has the potential to become the premium, dominant sandwich company in the west because we are true to our foundation — great food served with passion, and big meaty sandwiches served every day.

Togo’s also separates ourselves from competitors with our intensive training program.  In addition to the training we provide franchisees, we also provide state-of-the-art online learning tools available in English and Spanish which franchisees use to train their crew members.

The investment
We’re looking for franchisees with an entrepreneurial spirit and the willingness to work hard.  Franchisees invest in us because they know how great our sandwiches are and how much our loyal customers love them.  To invest in our great organization, a single restaurant development requires $150,000 in liquid assets and a net worth of $300,000.  Three or more restaurant developments require $450,000 in liquid assets and a net worth of $900,000.

There are several options for financing a Togo’s sandwich franchise, including access to a franchisee lending program created in partnership with Franchise America Finance™ (FAF) and The Bancorp Bank, a wholly-owned subsidiary of The Bancorp, Inc.  With this funding, both new and existing qualified Togo’s franchisees have access to $10 million for remodels and transfers, and $5 million to build new restaurants.

Our history
Togo’s has been a true West Coast original since 1971.  Our friendly, non-corporate personality and our demand for fresh, high-quality food has been bringing customers to our sandwich franchises for more than four decades.  Our sandwich franchise began when a young college student with a big appetite and a little money bought a small sandwich shack in San Jose where he started making sandwiches the way he liked them — big, made to order and stuffed with fresh ingredients.

The Togo’s opportunity
One of the things that makes Togo’s a great franchising system is the company’s culture, which is all about supporting the franchisee.  It’s part of our DNA; everything we do around the franchisees is helping them become more successful and profitable.

When we sign a franchisee, we don’t celebrate — we start working.  We look for the right site and build a Togo’s restaurant.  We help our new franchisees to meet our standards, to learn how to hire properly and train effectively so that we exceed our customer service goals every time.

Demand is high for sandwiches, and the greater the sandwich the more it meets those demands.  IBISWorld reports $22 billion in revenue for nearly 27,000 sandwich and sub store franchises domestically.  Customers consider sandwich franchises to be healthier than the average burger joint’s.

“The sandwich industry continues to be popular among consumers,” Tony says.  “Sandwiches are in demand because people enjoy choosing the type of bread and ingredients, and our options include salads and salad wraps for those seeking healthier meals.  Along with their sandwich is that intimate, personalized, one-on-one service.”

Who are our customers?
Our customers are looking for deals, and that’s why we offer $5 daily specials.  Our sandwiches are meatier than the competition’s, and our ingredients are fresh.  When you combine our tasty, inexpensive food with our healthy dining options, Togo’s is the place to be for that large customer demographic that is committed to healthy eating.

We offer a 20% discount on the initial franchise fee to qualified military veterans.
