The idea to market fish and chips in the United States through conveniently located units exclusively devoted to that purpose actually occurred to the founders of Arthur Treacher’s in October 1968.
During the next several months a thorough investigation of the history, development, equipment, processes, procedures, products and viability of the fish and chips business was undertaken.
In March 1969, the Company was incorporated as Arthur Treacher’s Fish & Chips. It was also in March 1969, when the company developed its patented process and its secret batter. The development of the patent, secret batter and systems resulted from the company’s determination to provide unique products adhering to the highest possible standards of quality. In May 1969, Arthur Treacher’s purchased Malin's of Bow, the originator of fish and chips. On June 21,1969, the first Arthur Treacher’s Fish & Chip’s restaurant opened for business in Columbus, Ohio. The introduction of Arthur Treacher’s Fish & Chips to the people of this country was underway. The intensive research, study, and long hours of development work resulted in immediate public acceptance.
Today, Arthur Treacher's products can be found as stand alone units, or combined with other franchises, such as; Pudgie’s Famous Chicken, Miami Subs, Nathan’s Famous and other’s soon to be announced.
