America's
Original Fast Food Chain
Eighty years ago in Lodi, California, Roy Allen opened his first root
beer stand and started what was to become America's first fast food
chain. Allen experienced tremendous success and in 1923, joined in partnership
with Frank Wright creating the name, A&W. In 1925, A&W began
to franchise and by 1933 had over 170 units in the mid-western United
States.
In
1995, Sid Feltenstein recognized the potential of this American
icon and purchased the company. With America's fondness for nostalgia
and the memories of frosty root beer floats, a rejuvenated A&W
emerged and launched a new era of growth unlike any in its history. |
Yorkshire
Global Restaurants, Inc. was formed in 1999 and Mr. Feltenstein
assumed the role of Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. The newly
formed company also acquired Long John Silver's Restaurants, which
has provided additional growth venues for both companies by introducing
our successful new cobranded restaurants. |
